Fantasy Baseball Draft Stratagy (Part 3) This is an article from ESPN's Page 2 thats a couple years old. In fact I think I probably linked to it before last season too. Its got some good tips in it (other than #4), and a couple that I keep in mind during a draft. Yeah, you want to win whatever pool you're in, but you don't want to do it with a team full of douchebags. If Barry Bonds carries my public team to the championship, I'm gonna feel dirty winning it. Thats why I tried to surround him with players that I like, such as Berkman, Helton, Willingham, Huff and Young. Now if those guys carry my team I can win with a smile on my face. Plus if Bonds disapoints then I can bitch about him even more. So my final piece of advice is to draft at least one player from your favorite team or the hometown team because those are the games you're most likely going to be watching regardless of who you drafted. And its just a little more fun when you see a guy come up to the plate and you know that hes one of 'your boys'. Then when he strikes out looking with runners in scoring position you can really get excited.
Comments:
Decent strategy picks, but I'll add a few more.
1.) If you can get Mariano Rivera, do it. He locks up the Saves category, and allows you to draft an SP with RP eligibility (Schilling, Dempster) so you can add onto your win total and take pitching by storm. 2.) Pay attention to how rookies finished the season. Clint Barnes played like a top tier all star before he got hurt, then came back and returned to form after he recovered. There's no reason to not expect big things this season. 3.) Pay attention to what positions each team has already drafted. If you need a 3b and an OF, look at the other teams. If everyone behind you already has a starting 3b, draft the OF first because you know your number one 3b option will still be there on the snakeback. 4.) Do not be a dick in the draft chat room. Dicks never get decent trade consideration.
Oh, also? Always draft hitting first. Seriously. Hitters are more predictable, and pitchers tend to be more volatile. Last year's big pitchers could be complete ass this year. Plus? Every year, a few 20 game winners come out of nowhere. Honestly, it's more about luck than anything else.
good stuff. got help from mike last night, but gonna see what i can pull outta my hat with tonights draft.
Yeah I agree with Barmes, I unfortunatley had him last year. Damned deer meet!

Rivera usually goes higher then I like to take him. But that also might be because I hate the Yankees. I prefer to wait a round after Rivera goes to get Lidge. But that has my bias all over it. Definitly keep an eye on what other teams are doing. You want to start runs, not end them. Yeah, being a dick doesn't get you anywhere. In fact if you can go the extra mile and be nice to people in the draft you are way more likely to work out a trade with them later. Although calling someone a cocksucker for taking the guy you wanted a couple picks in front of you is allowable. << Home |
